DO NOT USE IF CHILDREN HAVE ACCESS TO COMPUTER July 11, 2008 i'm sure this is an efficient programme for efficient people BUT its constant dialogue with the user (always asking permission for everything) places the computer at risk when someone other than an intelligent competent being responds to all the flags and warnings. My son is NOT intelligent nor competent and managed to ignore the warnings and turn off the virus protection which has meant the computer has now become infected and can no longer access the internet. Thanks alot guys, but slow or not i wish i had stuck with Norton. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

well I have used ZA sec suite in the past, however had been using mcafee sec suite 2008 as of late, all good in general but wasn't happy with the slow down still so reloaded trial version of ZA. Other reviewers have suggested this is slow, don't agree after cleaning up spyware and a trojan mcaffee didn't pik up, now were running sweet. It's also just warned me about some critical info trying to be passed on, blocked it and have now filled the ID vault, this obviously worked. The only concern I have is maybe with the programme control not on full wack maybe were not totally secure, however with the layered security built in here it seems good. Bye bye mcafee, if you don't want the in your face kaspersky then get this, more user friendly and when at full power a solid protection suite. Web pages definitely load better than with mcafee and I haven't come across any of the suggested software annomolies so far?? Worth a try if your not insistent on the big guns looking after your security and slowing your pc down. ********* I need to add some concerns here now, after only a couple of days use had some weird scan results, legitimate looking ptogrammes scanned as trojans, Ccleaner & Macromedia flashplayer 9?? Very odd, anyone else had this, also a warning from ID lock that a request was made for my bank sort code, worrying, the full system scans reveal nothing of any rogue programmes running, at least it was blocked what ever it was! But if it was a hacker, how did it get through the firewall, not so happy now despite a smooth running pc so far??
Beware if you are an ebay user!! February 2, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The good bits first: this is easy to install, and it hasn't let any nasties into my computer since I installed it almost a year ago. You can go into the preferences and manually upgrade or downgrade the security setting for sites to suit yourself.
The average bits: the "learn mode" is ok. You get loads of alerts in the first couple of weeks, where you have to tell it whether to always allow certain activity or to check first. Then it dies off and only alerts you when it comes across something it hasn't seen before, perhaps because you don't use it often or have downloaded an update or something. It does seem to have a problem with one program on my computer that it never seems to recognise, despite seeing it nearly every day, but that's a minor niggle.
The bad bits: If you want to use ebay, don't use this software. It won't let me search anything or access any of the sell pages. Various workarounds have been suggested, none of which make any difference to me. It is really, really annoying. Also, as others have said, it likes to wait until you actually need to do something on the computer and then hogs all the memory so whatever you're doing takes ages. It throws windows up telling you it's scanning, and slows everything else down. It will wait until you're halfway through a DVD and then pop up in the middle of the screen and proudly announce the results of it's latest scan.
So, 3 stars because it is actually good at what it does, and it tells you what it's done in plain English, and it's easy to set up and use. Stars deducted for ebay annoyance and periodic slowness. I'll be looking elsewhere when it's time to renew, unless the ebay issue gets fixed.
Always Reliable. January 5, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have been using Zone Alarm for the last three years and decided to try another make as the licence had come to an end and renewal was over 40. First I tried the free version of McAfee which unfortunately would only work if Windows Update was switched on and therefore slowed my computer down considerably. I then tried Panda Internet Security, which would not let me register for updates and kept closing programmes down for no reason. I then bought another 2007 version of Zone Alarm and have it running now.
I am happy to say that I consider Zone Alarm to be the best Internet Security system on the market and the easiest to configure, and I'm an 'average user' not a techie.
Reliable & Secure Product December 31, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Have to admit I was a bit nervous installing ZA 7 on my PC having read some of the reviews on Amazon. However, I first installed the trial version and did not have a problem. It is no more resource hungry than any other IS Suites and it is far more secure. A BIG PLUS is that thanks to Amazon I also got it at a great price!
I can only assume that those people having big problems were either installing it on VISTA, becasue it works fine on XP, or work for Norton!
