Never again May 15, 2008 Having used Norton for years, the 2006 version virtually stopped a new PC, so I tried Kaspersky, just like a new PC should be. I read all the reports this year about Norton having the speed issue sorted, and bought this version, what a mistake. The PC is down to a crawl,I had to turn off the anti phishing completely, it wouldn't allow sites with paypal to operate, internet explorer just stopped. OK the scan speed is faster, but I want a PC to work as well. As far as I am concerned, Norton has had its last chance, I cannot wait to get rid of it once and for all.
Totally Useless - Be Warned!!! May 10, 2008 I have used Norton's for years and have not had any problems until I purchased Nortons Internet Security 2008. The installation was fine but following the mandatory re-boot, the system was completely un-useable. Applications would not open, or would take 10 minutes but then not close. The system could not be shutdown or re-booted. Eventually I was forced to power down and start in safe mode, then I spent hours stripping this out by hand, file by file and editing the registry. I had the computer operating again after nearly 3 hours. I have now installed AVG and had no problems at all. This software is worse than having a virus. It will corrupt your system and leave it non-operable. You then cannot remove it, only by the method mentioned above. Folks, you really need to read the reviews here (and all over the net) as this product should be withdrawn from sale at once. Save yourself a load of heartache and buy a different AV system. Avoid this one at all costs. I selected 1 star, and that's only because there wasn't the option of nil stars.
Review indefence of one star customers May 10, 2008 I've tried different Antivirus software and I always come back to Nortons so I would say its definitaly reliable.
Before you install any Antivurus software or any type of maintenace software or Internet Security Software you have to KNOW that your PC is in top condition. I can tell you whats wrong with the viewers who gave one star and that is there PC was not in top condition or they don't know how to do computer maintenance. Most PC user do not do maintenance or regular checks to see if there computers are runnig properly and this is usually because most users don't know how. So when you install software like Internet Security Software or Antivirus software on a system that has not been properly maintained then you will have problems.
It would not been possible in this review to say how you would do computer maitenance, but one tip I can give is buy a book like "Microsoft Windows Vista Inside Out", and start studying. You also need to learn about the registry and don't just rely on registy software and you need to know how every software program you use regulary works and where they stores there settings. Most settings are in the registry but its not the only place you have to look.
Once you learn how every thing works on your PC in XP or Vista you will find that Norton does not slow your system down.
Here are a few more tips - you have two IE explorers one will be the one you use regulary and the other is one which is as if its never been used and you'll find it in the systems tools folder. You can also set the regulary IE to its factory settings in "Control Panel - Internet Options - Advance - Reset".
There are hudreds of tweaks and tricks and the more you know and learn the better you can tweak you computer to run properly, but if you don't do it or learn then now Antivurus software is going to help you.
I have found that Nortons runs better in the background than most of the others Antivirus software, but know Antivirus programs stops every type of virus but they are getting better. There are others that find more viruses than Nortons like bitdefender but I found the Nortons runs the best in the background and Version 2008 is definately better than 2007, so performance wise Nortons is definately reliable so five stars.
Does what it says on the tin May 3, 2008 Up till the last time my Antivirus subscription expired I've always had Norton and never had a glitch with using it on any PC or Windows format I've had(ME to SP1 and 2) However for awhile I tried running various free licence software, anti virus, firewall and spam blockers and sooner or later found they would start giving me problems so decided to return to a paid up version and back to Norton. This is performing excellently and doing everything it's supposed to,runs quietly in the background and no errors or glitches. The most important thing is to use the Norton removal tool pre install and on installing it let it go through a full install and don't skip anything and it'll settle in and start working without a hitch. I'm particularly impressed with the phishing filter, knocks spots off the one integrated in IE 7 and works brilliantly with Mozilla Firefox as well. All in all a great bit of kit and recommended if you want pc security without hassle.
Buy this product at your peril April 30, 2008 The first thing that is worth noting is that it will not work on Vista 64 even though it states it does. The other thing you need to know is that should your one vital piece of protection go wrong, you can get it fixed, and oh dear have Norton got it wrong. And when it comes to customer service it gets even worse. They must have the worst customer service in the world. They offer to call you if you fill in a form, you cannot complete the form as a UK telephone number will not fit in the box; as it converts it to a foreign number and there is not enough space. You can obtail a number but you have to fill in the form again first which you cannot complete. On emailing customer support they give you a number which guess what, is foreign and will not work. When you eventually get a number for them it is an offshore call centre who speak very slowly and grasp what you say once they put it through a translator. Be warned.
