Microsoft Money - A great piece of software !! May 21, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
When I purchased Microsoft Money I wasn't sure what to expect because the product is not being actively developed in the UK.
Having said that I found the product very good value and easy to set-up.
Integration with UK Banks and Building Societies On-Line services was mixed. Nationwide allowed background automatic updates and clearly supported the product the best. Next was HSBC who allow you to manually download the OFX style statements for processing into Money. Still quite an efficient process though. After that Lloyds TSB allow you to download data in the rather more basic QIF format. Most of the other SMALLER Banks and Building societies don't seem to support it - so you will have to enter data manually into the system for those accounts.
Microsoft Moeny would be fantastic if more Banks/Building societies offered full support for the product.
It's still a very good product though and I can personally recommend it.
Microsoft Money PC CDRom April 20, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Although I have used this software before on various version. I still feel that it lacks something. But apart from this it is a very good software Accounts program and very easy to use. I only hope that in future versions Microsoft will add a page control for the printer so that the client can insert a manual page break instead of a Automatic page break but as this problem was also in Quicken maybe it is not possible to create.
Good at home, or on the move March 29, 2008 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
So it's a bit clunky? It's Microsoft for goodness' sake! These are the advantages I like:-
- I can do my annual tax return (interest, dividends, rentals, etc.) in a day, even with the daft UK financial year. Update report dates, export to Excel, fill in the forms; - For free you can download a Pocket PC version to your PDA and synchronise in seconds. I am sometimes away from home for a month at a time and when I get home the desktop version can be updated and reconciled in a trice; - By using the regular payments/receipts section, and "paying and receiving" in advance it takes only seconds to project your cashflow.
I have used Money since 1994 (four floppies if memory serves) - I wouldn't use it to plan my retirement as it seems to think it can, but for basic family finances, it is a solid ally.
Stodgy sloppy software January 14, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought MM thinking that there would be some intelligent design and well thought out structure, behind a microsoft product, allowing users to tailor it to their needs. The downloads from my accounts almost never balance and I have to manually go through all my statements to correct errant entries. Difficult to open multiple databases without backing up and logging in again. No save or save as functions. No append functions. Difficult to sort or categorise similar items at a stroke. Almost impossible to change, add or rename fields. Always anxious of overwriting previous data given the way MM saves/backs-up. What a terrible piece of software. Any offers on alternate intuitive and well-designed accounting software??
ms money 2006 (UK) doesn't work!!! December 7, 2007 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
I downloaded money 2006 but I can't even log in to the site! All I get is windows needs to close the program - sorry! I am using win XP - SP2 - IE7. COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY AVOID THIS IF YOU KNOW WHAT'S GOOD FOR YOU! Ironically USA money 2007 DOES LOAD OK! but it's not much use in the UK! When are these 'MS' amateurs going to release an up to date UK version I wonder? - lots of complaints about this on the web if you know where to look? Apparently, 'MS' currently have no solutions for this problem, but they are aware of it! - this is not much help to those who waste their hard earned pennies on it though :(
IE7 conflict with MS Money 2006 Money 2006 launches, I can sign in, but at my first attempt to access my accounts or do anything, I get the following message: We're sorry, but Microsoft Money has experienced an internal error and will have to restart.
The error details are: AppName: msmoney.exe AppVer: 15.0.0.513 ModName: autoupdate.dll ModVer: 15.0.0.513 Offset: 00009c84
Microsoft confirmed that the conflict is between Money and IE7. NO WAY TO FIX THIS?
Do a search for "msmoney.exe AppVer: 12.0.0.613 ModName: ofdutil.dll" in google groups and you'll see a handful of others with the same error. Someone mentioned that it started happening with an update that came out in July. Nobody seems to have a clear cut solution, including Microsoft!!!
