Everyone Must Own One! June 23, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Did you know that a man named Karl Elsener, a cutler in Ibach, Schwyz, Switzerland invented the original Swiss Army Knife and it was dispersed to soldiers in 1891? This amazing little invention has been around that long and has gone through more and more improvements. Any outdoors person should not be without one. Whether camping, hiking or fishing, this is a must have. Be careful of cheaper imitations. Everything is stainless steel with thirty-two different uses. It literally has everything you need on a camping trip. You can read about more in the supplies page, but I would recommend that after each use, you clean it thoroughly with a damp cloth and then wipe all the blades with basic oil fluid. It does have a lifetime warranty (against any defects), but if you take care of this amazing "knife" you can pass it along to the next generation. It is a fantastic gift for anyone. I won't repeat what you can read above - just check out what this great invention contains! "Victorinox" is the original 'Swiss Army Knife'!
Amazing Multifunctional Tool February 14, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
It's worth to spent every money. I have one for almost 20 years and it's still working like new. This one should be a gift for somebody, but I think that I will keep it :) If You need a knife with many different tools, this should be Your perfect choice.
simply the best all-rounder September 12, 2007 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I've owned one of these for several years. It has been used almost daily for all manner of DIY and outdoor tasks, but the blades are still razor sharp and there's not a hint of rust anywhere.
The whole thing is very solidly put together. It handles well, and when a tool is opened, it doesn't feel like it will snap shut on your fingers.
I'd recommend also getting the Victorinox leather case with belt loop.
There are many knives out there that look a bit like Victorinox ones, but none really cut it, so to speak. The genuine article is Victorinox.
A beauty January 23, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
A lovely little toolkit. I went for this one as I could always think of things that i would need the missing tools for, on the smaller knives. Now that I have it, I love it, but at 31mm thick (info I couldnt find anywhere), its quite a weight in my pocket. A small sacrifice.
An indispensible multitool that will withstand more then a few knocks! June 3, 2006 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
First of all, I was contemplating on whether to buy the Voctorinox Craftsman, but after much procrastination I decided to spend 6 pounds extra in order to get the Champ.
I am a student and it is a real pain, when I don't have utensils or tools to hand. I have used the knife on so many occasions, such as cutting food, perforating packaging and a multitude of other things. The other components such as the saw, screwdrivers and reamer have come in handy, when assembling flat packed furniture. Lastly the tweezers have a literal god send in removing splinters or picking up delicate items that are fiddly such as watch screws.
One tiny disadvantage is that the pliers cannot really be used for anything too substantial. The jaw span of them only seem to open to half an inch, thus the pliers are not practical for the big bolts and hexs around the house. But with that said, that isnt really a big problem and they are still useful for small camping based jobs, such as mending portable butane stoves or aspects of your tent. To remedy this I also have a pair of Sebertool (M2) snap on pliers that I carry with me.
Im yet to backpack to Croatia and Romania and I am inevitably going to throw this into my travel luggage.
In regards to the dimenisions of the knife, I would say it definitely fits snuggly into my hand and is in now way cumbersome ! I have the tan brown leather Victorinox pouch and so I have the 'Champ' holstered on my person most of the time, whether outside on the town or in the house.
I have owned 2 swiss army knives (huntsman and classic SD), but I must say that this knife is the most durable and useful that I have ever come across. It really is an essential piece of kit equally useful to both men and women. I cannot complement this knife too highly!
P.s. This knife has a lifetime warranty (with proof of purchase shown) and Victorinox UK have excellent customer service.
