3 out of 5 stars Sharpening Blades   December 27, 2006

>>>>>Note that, like any plane, you will have to expend a bit of energy sharpening the blade when you first get your new plane. First sharpen the back of the blade (the flat side which forms one side of the cutting surface) to remove any signs of machining, then sharpen the cutting angle itself. Use a good quality sharpening stone, and I would recommend using Stanley's sharpening guide<<<<<,
That's why I prefer the RALI product range with rechargeble reversible blade technology

4 out of 5 stars Spend a few pounds more for an adjustable throat   March 31, 2004

This is a nice block plane. Once one has sharpened the blade, and keep it sharp, it is nice to handle and copes well with jobs. However, having used this plane extensively, I would recommend anybody planning to do a lot of planing to pay a bit more for the 020 or the 060 model. The adjustable throat would make planing different types of wood easier.

Note that, like any plane, you will have to expend a bit of energy sharpening the blade when you first get your new plane. First sharpen the back of the blade (the flat side which forms one side of the cutting surface) to remove any signs of machining, then sharpen the cutting angle itself. Use a good quality sharpening stone, and I would recommend using Stanley's sharpening guide.
