Mixed bag this beast! June 30, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bit of a mixed bag this workbench. Seems as if the superb framework was made to high German standards and the top and plastic jaw tighteners sent off to cheapo Chinese back street workshop. Both jaw tighteners stopped tightening-and no I didn`t go mad with it--there is a slot in metal shaft, a screw, a small one, goes through one side of back of handle and engages with shaft so it turns and moves jaws. On mine both screws damaged holes in plastic as could by no stretch of imagination take loads needed. I drilled through back of handle, giving me 4 thicknesses of plastic, not just one and drove a ss screw through. This has held very well so far and can in fact be tightened a lot more. The MDF top in rubbish, just need to look at it and it chips. The plastic clamps for top wont stay in as there isn`t a bit to shove up underneath to help grip it. I think B&D bench has that type fitted, not sure as never had one. Don`t think its worth the money, it would be if jaw tighteners were a lot better design, and top was better than MDF, tissue paper would be an improvement!! Next thing with me is fitting new hardwood tops as the "laddo" had a slight accident with a power plane, can`t blame Wolfcraft for that of course. Very very strong and very well designed framework and the foot clamps work brilliantly. redo handles and you`re on a winner. It is very very heavy, I kid you not, not the sort of thing to carry about all day. You also have great fun putting it all together, you will need various spanners, screwdrivers, a forklift truck and 3 sets of hands, otherwise its a doddle--
