Tango December 3, 2006 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
Really disappointed with this film. The dialogue is dated and unconvincing and for a tango film I found the actors strangely passionless. The plot is flat and unoriginal and limps along. I ended up fast forwarding to the dance elements and then watching some of these again.
Wow! Fantastic! January 29, 2005 19 out of 21 found this review helpful
This is a masterpiece - it isn't a simple film about tango, but a film with a complex plot and a twist at the end. It is also amazingly energetic (thanks to the tango theme and the great dancers in the cast), brilliantly colourful and a musical feast. I can't believe the 'less than gushingly positive' reviews I have read on Amazon! For me, it is an art installation piece, a political manifesto, a thriller - poetry on film. Buy it, treasure it and share it with your intelligent and politically sound friends!
Patchy November 3, 2003 6 out of 18 found this review helpful
The dancing is wonderful, but the film is daft. Skip forward through the puerile dialogue and posy nonsense, and its probably worth the money.
Tango - much more than a dance June 18, 2003 18 out of 19 found this review helpful
Be prepared for surprises - this film is about far more than dancing, despite the title and main photograph on the DVD holder. The film tells a moral tale about maturity and the abuse of power, at the levels of the both the individual and the state. It is full of ideas - in the plot, words, music, dance, colour and space. Immigration to Buenos Aires, decades of tango, the murders of Argentina's junta period and personal passions are woven together. On a small screen, some may find the subtitles slightly on the small the side - which is a pity, because although the film is not dialogue-heavy, you do need to know what the actors are saying to each other. The English translation is good. The film is brilliantly made and rewards more than one viewing.

Nice work of photographic art, however this movie is supposed to be about Tango - a dance! The dancers in it were of such low qualitiy. Juan Carlos Copes uses old steps and the same old music and same old tricks. Cecilia Narova is a worse female dancer than Julio Bocca as a female dancer. Mia Maestro is nice looking, but that's about it. Strange part in the middle of the movie. There are so many really talented dancer. Next time use them.
