Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
John Lasseter and his gang of high-tech creators at Pixar create another entertainment for the ages. Like the handful of other great movie sequels, Toy Story 2 comments on why the first one was so wonderful while finding a fresh angle worthy of a new film. The craze of toy collecting becomes the focus here, as we find out Woody (voiced by Tom Hanks) is not only a beloved toy to Andy but also a rare doll from a popular 60s children's show. When a greedy collector takes Woody, Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) launches a rescue mission with Andy's other toys. To say more would be a crime because this is one of the most creative and smile-inducing films since, well, the first Toy Story.

Although the toys look the same as in the 1994 feature, Pixar shows how much technology has advanced: the human characters look more human, backgrounds are superior, and two action sequences that book-end the film are dazzling. And it's a hoot for kids and adults. The film is packed with spoofs, easily accessible in-jokes and inspired voice casting (with newcomer Joan Cusack especially a delight as Cowgirl Jessie). But as the Pixar canon of films illustrates, the filmmakers are storytellers first. Woody's heart-tugging predicament can easily be translated into the eternal debate of living a good life versus living for forever. Toy Story 2 was deservedly a huge box-office success. --Doug Thomas, Amazon.com

5 out of 5 stars Superb   July 22, 2008
Clever, imaginative, charming and very, very funny. Note the jokey references to Jurassic Park and Star Wars.

4 out of 5 stars Great, but not as great as TS1   December 18, 2007
Sorry, not the best review really - If you loved TS then you will like this, but not quite so much (IMHO!)

4 out of 5 stars More adventure and more laughs!   September 6, 2006

Another great film from Pixar, during a period when computer animated films were still a bug thing, unlike now where they come out all the time, and we take them for granted.
This sequel is almost perfect really - even the computer technology had advanced over the 6 year gap, and the film looks so more detailed than the original. The plot is more adventerous, and the new characters are a real laugh, making it very fresh.
I think the first film was more "original" but this sequel has more of the laughs!

5 out of 5 stars A brilliant film, if anything better than the original.   January 19, 2005

There is a rumour that this was planned as a straight to video (DVD) release and it only secured a cinematic release when Pixar realised how good it was. It certainly was good enough.

A great story following the gang attempting to rescue Woody after a toy collector has kidnapped him (technically I guess he is stolen but it feels like a kidnapping). As in the first film the story works on a number of different levels successfully appealing to children and adults.

Once again the animation is fantastic and the vocal talents superb: Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Kelsey and Joan Cusack are all excellent.

Simply wonderful
