hmm... March 28, 2003 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is one of the strangest movies I have ever encountered. I dont think it is an appealing film for people just wanting a relaxing night in to watch a good story. This film is different. It isnt about telling a story. Its about acting. At times I must admit, even as a devoted Downey fan, I was curious as to where the plot was going. The whole movie is filmed in one flat, which is basically one room. The script is vague, and I think the majority of the speach is improvised. Although these factors may frighten some away, they are in fact, what makes this film so good. The acting is fantastic, and because it is a low budget film, with no bombs going off in the background, or car chases, it lets the audience get drawn in, and concentrate purley on what is being said. Thats it really. But in conclusion, if you are a fan of the three actors, aspecially Robert Downey Jr, this is a film for you. Overflowing with rich, pure talent, it entices you and if you let it, can at times make you feel like you are watching the action from the other side of the studio. Enjoy
One pair of shoes you definately wouldn't want to be in !! June 5, 2002 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was attracted to this film mainly as I am a fan of Robert Downey Jnr. This film is definately a showcase for his talents, which range from singing both opera and Jackie Wilson's "You Don't Know Me" and playing the piece of music "Snakes" (which he himself composed) to improvised acting and performing an extract from Hamlet. This film is certainly not like any other film I've seen. Downey Jnr is infuriatingly charming, despite being caught out by his two girlfriends he still tries to talk his way out of it, the classic line being "I'm an actor and actors lie". His two girlfriends react alot more calmly than I would! Natasha Gregson Wagner is great as streetwise Lou but I'm not really a fan of Heather Graham and she is particularly bland in this role. Though the whole film is based in the same apartment and is very dark at times, this film is still worth seeing. Great for fans of Robert Downey Jnr and hopefully a deterent for any potential double-daters!
As in real life June 20, 2001 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
Pretend you are a fly on the wall. See what happens, when a mans two gilrfriends suddently confront him without warning. The man obviously don't want to lose any of them, so what is he to do? Aperently nothing but talk, talk and talk - trying to work things out. This whole movie is based in the same appartment and there is no way, one can predict the ending. The acting is phenomenal. It is as if they are just improvising thoughout the entire movie - and with succes that is! - Just as in real life...I suppose...
