Hilarious: You will either laugh till you cry or curl up in a ball cringing,If you are the latter will also cause you to scream! June 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
One of the funniest, cleverly written French farce's I have ever seen. The relationship between the main 2 characters is both funny & sad. This is a timeless classic, which works regardless of nationality. As many have written about the plod of the film, there seems little more to add. However....
Now don't get me wrong I a not comparing this film to the Uk "The Office"series but I am the Emotions it can evoke in some people. If like me, you laugh at Brent's (actor Gervais) behaviour & manners you will have an excellent comfortably hilarious evenings viewing, if however you are like My big Brov - he , though has made many attempts can not watch the office as he find himself cringing & shouting at the TV screen at Brent's(Gervais) behaviour, not something he likes to do after a hard days work.(Apparently he has met in real life too many like Brent's to find it relaxing...)
Each to what there humour/emotions can handle...Warning this can evoke in some people that cringing, shouting at the TV screen - My friends son does when watching this, hides behind his fingers screaming at Monsieur Pignon, a character you can not help but love. I have lost count over the years how many times I've watched this film, each time it just gets seems to get funnier.
Subtitles: I bought this for my late step father, his arrived from AmzUk (2 years ago)with the option to play having English dubbed over, If your comes like this I would advise you to play in French with English subtitles, as the timing , original voices are much better. Having said that as it a film you are likely to watch MORE than once, and if your unfamiliar with French, you could watch the English dub version 1st, bearing in mind you will find it funnier 2nd time round in French/Uk subtitles.
Incredibly Funny February 27, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a very sharp, incredibly funny little comedy. Its so off the wall and far fetched at some parts and it made me laugh out loud which is very unusal. I've since bought the movie to keep. Highly recommended.
Amusing January 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Classic theatre-style farce (no doubt based on a play). Perhaps a little too farcical at times, but it is also a lot of fun if you haven't got anything better to do.
Sweet & Sour January 10, 2008 Only the French know how to make you laugh and cry at exactly the same moment. This story has many levels at which it touches and needs to be seen at least twice. It is sheer enjoyment and absolutely cringe making.
Fixed subtitles November 2, 2007 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
Please note, that it is impossible to switch off the subtitles on this edition. This is very annoying if you understand French or want to learn it. I think Amazon should state facts like this in their description. Very dissapointing for that reason. Otherwise: good film.
