brilliant performances March 10, 2008 a truly stunning film and penn"s performance just adds to his impressive cv.However Pfeiffer and Fanning are very good too. penns performance reminded me somewhat of dustin hoffman in rainman. A tearjerker but also a feelgood movie highly reccommended.
Why the missing scene? February 28, 2008 I watched this film and again was impressed with Sean Penn who just gets better like a wine growing with age, and you can see why Dakota Fanning is being used in many films for the child's part. But looking through the deleted scenes, there was the lift scene where Penn was just like a young child, enthralled by the people like ants below and Pfieffer looking sicker at every description of the height they were at! This surely was an important scene as it emphasised childlike ways and explained why they suddenly stopped using the lift. I thought this was one of those great scenes that should have been in a film and ended up making the film (slightly) poorer by its exclusion
Brilliant December 17, 2007 No Doubt about it Sean Penn excelled himself in this role. It is a wonderful film brought tears to our eyes. We have watched it so many times. A real tear jerker but great for displaying that people with disabilities aren't stupid. Wonderfully produced.
top class November 11, 2007 I have watched this movie so many times and yet it always manages to bring a tear to my eye. The acting is brilliant and one really grows attached to the characters, especially Sean Penn as Sam. A wonderful movie in all aspects. Definitely worth watching but don't forget the tissues.
Wow! May 8, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
A friend lent me this film and I had to admit, I'd never heard of it and wasn't sure what to expect. I laughed and cried my way through the film. I cannot begin to put into words the fabulous performance of Sean Penn playing an Autistic father with the mental age of 7, you totally believe in him and he should have won an oscar for his portrayal. A brilliant film from the opening credits to the end, a must for anyone's DVD collection!!
