Dr Who does Frankenstein, and does it so very well June 18, 2005 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a shameless rip of the 1930s Frankenstein films. All the Hollywood Gothic trademarks are there, from the crashing chadelier to the torch-wielding lynch mob, the grotesquely ugly monster, the hunchbacked assistant and the craggy lightning-silhouetted rocks. Star of the show is Philip Madoc, who makes the most of his over-ripe dialogue with a perfectly judged performance that blends fanticism and amoral cunning to great effect. And the production's relish for blood and gore makes this hugely enjoyable. One to remember.
Doctors Frankenstein Horror Show September 30, 2004 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
All the best aspects of the Baker era Who: expansive, well executed sets; superbly over the top acted characters; science based 'facts', and borrow the plot of a well known story, in this case Shelleys 'Frankenstein'. Brain.. is a superb story, Baker in full SERIOUS pomp, Sarah at her dizzy, heroic best and editing and effects to match. Watch out for the Doctors 'Mind Bending' match with the villain of the hour, the sequence reveals that Hartnell's version of Who is not the first of the Doctors lives, and many of the crew are featured as past lives, lookout for Phillip Hinchcliffe in particular! A great who collection addition.
